West Chester Sweeps Doubleheader From Chestnut Hill

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

PHILADELPHIA – Sarah Walasavage (Minersville, Pa./Minersville) went a combined 5-for-9 at the plate with five runs scored, and Katie Erb (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) set two conference saves records, as visiting West Chester swept a non-league softball doubleheader at Chestnut Hill.

West Chester (27-3), ranked 15th in the latest NFCA Division II Coaches' Poll, captured game one 8-3, before stopping Chestnut Hill (8-26), 10-0 in 6 innings, in the nightcap.

Erb came on in relief in starter Brooke Harner, who improved to 10-0, and threw the final three innings of the win in game one to pick up her sixth save of the season and 12th of her career. Those 12 career saves topped former Shippensburg hurler Kelley Tiesi (2003-06) old mark of 11 while her six saves this season also topped current California (Pa.) ace Alex Sagl's conference single-season record of five saves set last spring.

Leading 4-2 entering the top of the sixth inning of game one, West Chester scored four runs to give itself the necessary cushion to earn the win. Harner tossed four scoreless innings to remain perfect on the season, scattering three hits while walking one and striking out six. Alyssa Herion (Avon Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) busted out of a 1-for-13 slump with her team-leading seventh home run of the season as well.

In the nightcap, Cat Hammer (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) hit a three-run homer in the fifth, and Walasavage homered during a four-run sixth that halted the game early. Amanda Houck (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) tossed five scoreless frames for her 11th win on the season. She yielded just a pair of hits while walking one and striking out 10.

West Chester hosts East Stroudsburg Thursday afternoon on South Campus.
