West Chester Softball Sweeps East Stroudsburg

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Fr., Sara Ercolani (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) went 4-for-7 at the plate with a solo home run, scoring three runs on the day, to lift West Chester to a sweep of PSAC East rival East Stroudsburg, 6-3 and 9-1, Thursday afternoon.
 
The 15th-ranked Golden Rams (29-3, 4-0 PSAC East) pitching staff held ESU's lineup to four runs on nine hits in the twinbill combined with 15 strikeouts (12 in the first game). East Stroudsburg (11-11, 0-6) was unable to get on track all afternoon.
 
Cat Hammer (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) went 2-for-5 on the day, smashing a three-run shot over the left field fence to push the Golden Rams forward, 5-1, in the third inning of the first game. Center fielder Sarah Walasavage (Minersville, Pa./Minersville) recorded a solo homerun in the fourth as a part of a 3-for-6 day, scoring three runs and knocking in two.
 
Junior Micaela McSpadden (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood) also went 3-for-6, knocking in two runs on a double to right in the second game in stretching the lead to five (6-1). Monica Twardowski (Boothwyn, Pa./Padua Academy) went 2-for-2, scoring one run and registered a two-run triple in game two.
 
Amanda Houck (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) (12-3) registered a save in the opener and then went the distance for the win in the night cap. She threw 2.2 scoreless innings in relief of Brooke Harner (Chadds Ford, Pa./Kennett), who improved to 11-0 on the year with the win in game one. Houck struck out five and allowed just one hit. Harner scattered four hits over 4.1 innings of work, striking out seven and allowing three runs, only one of which was earned.
 
In the night cap, Houck allowed one run on four hits in five innings of work. She struck out three.
 
Warriors' Heather Visco led the Warriors, going 3-for-6 at the plate, including a solo home run in the first inning of game one.
 
West Chester moves on to Saturday where the Golden Rams welcome in Kutztown for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
