MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Millersville's Brianna Andriaos shut down No. 12 West Chester in both ends of a PSAC East softball doubleheader to lead the host Marauders to a sweep Saturday afternoon.
West Chester (39-5, 10-2 PSAC East) saw its 19-game winning streak overall and 10-game winning streak within the conference come to a close as a result of the 1-0 and 3-1 losses on the road. The Golden Rams have clinched a PSAC Tournament bid already, but still maintains a two-game lead over second-place Kutztown in the league standings with a 2-0 record against the Golden Bears so far this year.
West Chester was limited to just four hits in the opener and six more in the night cap. Millersville hit a walk-off single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning of game one to break a scoreless tie to that point. It was the first defeat of the season suffered by West Chester right-hander
Brooke Harner (Chadds Ford, Pa./Kennett). She had won her first 15 decisions heading into Saturday's contest - a school record for wins from the beginning of the season.
Sarah Walasavage (Minersville, Pa./Minersville) had two of West Chester's four hits in the first-game loss.
In the second game, three doubles in the second inning chased starter
Katie Erb (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone), who fell to 10-1 on the year, and led to a pair of runs. That was all the Marauders would need. West Chester got one run back in the top of the third innings. However, Millersville tacked on an insurance tally in the fifth for the final outcome.
Sara Ercolani (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) went 2-for-3 while
Madison Kelly (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) had the lone RBI for the Golden Rams.
West Chester travels to Bowie State on Sunday for a non-league doubleheader against the Bulldogs.
