BOWIE, Md. –
Sarah Walasavage (Minersville, Pa./Minersville) knocked in seven runs in the night cap, as 12th-ranked West Chester swept a non-league softball doubleheader on the road at Bowie State Sunday afternoon.
Â
West Chester (41-5) bounced back from its pair of losses at Millersville on Saturday and continue the school's best start to a softball season by reaching 40 wins quicker than any other club in school history while also achieving the milestone for the third consecutive campaign.
Â
Walasavage hit a two-run double during a six-run second inning in game two, and then smashed a grand slam, her fifth home run of the season, during another six-run frame in the fourth to spark a pair of rallies. She finished 3-for-4 in that second game.
Â
Laura Altenburger (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) hit her fourth home run of the season in the opener to give West Chester a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Bowie State tied it in the bottom of the third. However, the Golden Rams plated a pair of unearned runs in the sixth to pull out the win for
Brooke Harner (Chadds Ford, Pa./Kennett) (16-1).
Â
Harner relieved starter
Amanda Houck (Gap, Pa./Pequa Valley) in the third inning and threw the final 4.2 innings, allowing just one hit and striking out 10 without surrendering a run.
Â
Senior
Katie Erb (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) (11-1) got the win in game two. She threw four of the five innings, scattering three hits and striking out one.
