West Chester Sweeps Shippensburg In Friday’s Doubleheader

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – West Chester outscored Shippensburg 34-5 in a two-game sweep and captured its seventh consecutive road doubleheader at Robb Field Friday afternoon. The Golden Rams took game one, 15-5 in 6 innings, before winning game two, 19-0 in 5 innings.

West Chester (35-3, 8-0 PSAC East) remains unbeaten in conference play and ran its winning streak to 15 straight with the pair of wins. The Rams are also a perfect 8-0 on the road this spring. Shippensburg (12-19, 2-6) held a 5-4 lead in game one heading into the sixth inning, before the Golden Rams finally pulled away.

Senior right-hander Katie Erb (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) (8-0) remained perfect on the season going five innings, striking out four and walking one, while allowing four hits in the 19-0 shutout. Brooke Harner (Chadds Ford, Pa./Kennett) grabbed the win in game one coming on in relief, pitching 2 and 2/3 innings, strikeout five and only giving up one hit. She improved to 15-0 on the season.

So., C Cat Hammer (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) went 6-for-8 (.750) on the day with her eighth home run of the season and a double for a total of five RBI and five runs scored. Madison Kelly (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) added a 4-for-6 with two walks to score four runs and add an RBI.

Fr., Alyssa Herion (Avon Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) hit two home runs in the second game for a team-leading nine, in addition to her go-ahead two-run triple in game one, for five RBI and three runs scored on the day. Teammate Sarah Ercolani (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) added a two-run homer, knocking in five.

Ashley Flesch (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) hit her first career home run in game two as well.

West Chester continues its five-game road trip on Sunday as the Golden Rams travel to take on Philadelphia University for a non-league doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
