Box Score
CHARLESTON, WV - Both
Alyssa Herion (Avon Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) and
Haley Bollinger (Maytown, Pa./Donegal) went 2-for-3, but Kutztown jumped out in front and never looked back en route to a 5-2 elimination game win over West Chester, ending the Golden Rams' season.
West Chester (48-9) concludes the 2016 campaign with a school-record 48 wins and the team's fourth straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. Kutztown (33-19) advances to tomorrow's next round where the Golden Bears will have to defeat weekend host University of Charleston twice in order to advance to the Super Regionals next week.
The Rams scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut a 4-0 deficit in half. However, that was all West Chester would get out of Kutztown starter Jackie Morell (4-1). Morell scattered seven hits over seven innings while walking two and striking out one. West Chester starter Brooke Harner (19-3) surrendered four runs on seven hits in five innings of work. Senior
Katie Erb (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) threw the final two frames.
Sara Ercolani (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) hit a RBI double in the sixth, scoring
Sarah Walasavage (Minersville, Pa./Minersville). Herion followed later with a run-scoring single that plated Ercolani.
