California, Pa.-The West Chester University men's soccer team(8-2-1, 6-0-0 PSACC) took to the road on Saturday afternoon to visit the Cal (Pa.) Vulcans (1-9-0, 1-4-0 PSAC) in an important PSAC matchup. The Golden Rams went on to win by a final score of 5-1.
How it Happened:
- West Chester jumped out to an early lead when Giovanni Mowrey(Bethlehem, Pa./Notre Dame Green Pond) knocked in a deflection off the goalie following a Brett Glasco(West Chester, Pa./Rustin) shot into an open net to give West Chester the early 1-0 lead.
- Mowrey would continue his big day as he took an assist from Jason Pixley and turned it into a goal to give West Chester the 2-0 lead.
- In the 39th minute Nick Jachwak took an assist from Glasco off a turnover to give West Chester a 3-0 lead.
- In the 43rd minute sophomore Connnor Gwin (Kingsville, Md./Perry Hall) registered his first career goal to give the Golden Rams a 4-0 lead.
- Brett Beaumont(Bensalem,Pa./Archbishop Ryan) scored his second goal of the season in the 44th minute after the goalie misplayed a ball in the box to give West Chester a 5-0 lead heading to the half.
- Cal (Pa.) answered back in the 78th minute when Anthony Papageorgiou took a free kick from the top of the box and buried it in the bottom right corner to avoid the shutout cutting the lead to 5-1.
- Matt Palmer(Bangor, Pa./Bangor) earned the victory in goal once again recording one save while facing five shots on the day.
Inside the Numbers:
- With the five goals in the first half West Chester has now outscored their opponents by a 9-4 margin over the last two games including a 9-1 margin in the first half of the past two games.
- West Chester outshot Cal (Pa.) by a 19-5 margin and they also held a 13-2 advantage in shots on goal.
- Cal (Pa.) held a slight 3-2 advantage in corners on the afternoon.
