West Chester, Pa.-As a result of the victory on Tuesday afternoon the (4) West Chester University Field Hockey team will take to the road on Friday afternoon to take on (1) Shippensburg with that contest scheduled to get underway at 1 pm.
West Chester faced Bloomsburg on Tuesday afternoon in the PSAC quarterfinal inside the friendly confines of Vonnie Gros field and went on to win by a final score of 1-0. This gave West Chester a perfect 3-0 record for the year opposite the Huskies and they have outscored them by a margin of 9-2 over the course of those three victories.
The Golden Rams have faced Shippensburg once already this season back on October 3
rd when Shippensburg prevailed by a score of 3-2. In this game Shippensburg jumped out to a 2-0 lead through 40 minutes of play but West Chester did not go down quietly. Rachal Toppi recorded an important goal in the 47
th minute to make it a one goal game with 23 minutes to play. The Raiders added a goal of their own in the 59
th minute off a penalty stroke to extend the lead to 3-1 with just over 10 minutes left to play. Caitlin Kelly tallied a big goal in the 63
rd minute bringing the score to 3-2 with about six minutes left to play.
West Chester applied heavy pressure over the final six minutes but it did not prove to be enough for the Golden Rams to pull off the upset over the No. 1 ranked team in the nation.
Shippensburg and West Chester also met under the same circumstances a year ago and the Raiders ultimately prevailed by a score of 2-1.
The last two meetings between these two rivals have been decided by just one goal.
East Stroudsburg will host Millersville in the other semifinal getting underway at 3:30 pm.
The winner of this contest will play in the championship game on Sunday afternoon at 1 pm inside the Robb Sports Complex on the campus of Shippensburg University.
