PSAC Championship Central

WEST CHESTER, Pa.-The West Chester University Golden Rams continue their PSAC postseason run on Saturday afternoon when they host the East Stroudsburg University Warriors in the PSAC Championship game beginning at 1 pm at Rockwell field. The last time the Golden Rams appeared in the PSAC Championship game was at the end of the 2013 season when they fell to the seventh ranked team in the country in Cal (Pa.) by a score of 3-0.

Tickets to all PSAC tournament games are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Any student from  a PSAC member institution with a valid university ID, will be admitted free of charge. There are no complimentary tickets available and only PSAC passes will be honored. Parking for the PSAC tournament will be located in the Ferrell Stadium lot across the street. The small lot located at Rockwell field will be used only for handicapped parking as well as parking for game officials and administration.

West Chester enters the championship game riding an 11 game winning streak after defeating Gannon in a thrilling semifinal by a score of 2-1. Gannon scored first in the 54th minute to take a 1-0 lead. West Chester did not allow this deficit to last long as they broke through in the 56th minute when Jenny Bail scored to even the game at 1. Things remained tied for about 30 minutes until Linzi Wolfe took an assist from Claire Jacobs to give the Golden Rams the 2-1 lead with just over four minutes left to play. This lead held up powering West Chester to a 2-1 semifinal victory and a berth in the conference title game.

The second semifinal was just as exciting as the score remained tied heading into the final 10 minutes of the match when East Stroudsburg (ESU) managed to break through off a bouncing ball in the box to take a 1-0 lead in the closing minutes.  ESU held on to the lead in the final minutes of play to earn a berth in the conference title game for the second straight year.

West Chester and East Stroudsburg met earlier this season back on the first day of the season at Rockwell field when West Chester defeated ESU by a score of 1-0 off the strength of a goal from Julia Kirkpatrick which came off an assist from Kaitlyn McNamara.

This is the Warriors second consecutive PSAC title game appearance as they will be looking to defend their 2016 title.  A year ago the Warriors and Golden Rams met in the PSAC semifinals and ESU prevailed by in penalty kicks by a 3-2 margin.
