West Chester Slips Past Catawba In Extra Innings, 3-2

Box Score

CLEARWATER, Fla. – Senior Micaela McSpadden (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood) hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning, and Amanda Houck (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) held Catawba scoreless in the bottom half, lifting West Chester to a 3-2 victory on the second day of the NFCA Leadoff Classic Saturday afternoon.

West Chester (3-0) started the extra frame with pinch-runner Bri Garber (Willow Street, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) on second base. Alyssa Herion (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) sacrificed Garber over to third where McSpadden's sac fly scored the freshman with the game-winning run.

West Chester's top two hitters in the order, Madison Kelly (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) and Sarah Walasavage (Minersville, Pa./Minersville) combined to go 4-for-7 with a RBI. Cat Hammer (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) finished 2-for-3 with a RBI. Heidi McCollester (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) was 2-for-3 as well.

The Golden Rams' final line read: three runs on eight hits without committing any errors. Catawba scored two runs on four hits and had one miscue.
