CLEARWATER, Fla. - Bri Garber (Willow Street, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) went 3-for-4 with a stolen base, but Hillsdale College scored six unanswered runs to erase a two-run deficit and down West Chester University in the final game of the NFCA Leadoff Classic Sunday morning at E.C. Moore Complex.
West Chester (3-2) finished the round-robin tournament with a winning record, after opening the weekend with three straight wins.
The Golden Rams plated two runs in the top of the third inning on a RBI groundout by
Madison Kelly (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) and a single up the middle from
Sara Ercolani (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East). That staked West Chester to a 2-0 lead. However, Hillsdale responed with five runs of its own in the bottom half of the third and then added another later on to take the win.
Amanda Houck (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) (1-1) suffered the loss inside the circle.
Courtney Stump (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) went 2-for-3 for the Golden Rams, who managed just two runs on nine hits in the contest.
West Chester travels to Myrtle Beach, S.C., next weekend for the Snowbird Tournament. The Golden Rams face Glenville State in the opener on Saturday.
