Molloy's 7-Run Second Enough To Overcome West Chester, 7-5

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Molloy scored seven runs in the top of the second inning and then held on for a 7-5 victory over West Chester in the Golden Rams' final game at the Snowbird Tournament this weekend in Myrtle Beach.

West Chester (6-3), which was coming off a 4-0 shutout over New Haven, chipped away at what was a five-run deficit. But, Molloy (4-2) held off the Golden Rams' effort for the win.

West Chester scored five runs on 12 hits. However, the Rams left 10 runners on base in the loss. Molloy scored seven runs on eight hits and only left six on base.

The Golden Rams jumped on top early with two runs in the bottom of the first. However, the Lions responded with their big second inning. Down, 7-2, West Chester added a run in the third and two more in the fifth. But, that was as close as they would get.

Amanda Houck (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) (3-2) suffered the loss inside the circle. She lasted just one inning, giving up five runs, four of them earned, on three hits. Brooke Harner (Chadds Ford, Pa./Kennett) relieved her and tossed two innings, allowing two runs, only one of which was earned.

Sara Ercolani (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) and Micaela McSpadden (Spotswood, Pa./Spotswood) each hit RBI singles in the first to stake West Chester to its early lead. Cat Hammer (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) hit an RBI double that scored Madison Kelly (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) in the third.

Alyssa Herion (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) and Courtney Stump (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) each hit RBI singles in the fifth to pull West Chester within two, 7-5. But, that was all the Golden Rams would get.

West Chester is off until March 7 when it travels to Shepherd University for a non-league doubleheader.
