Sarah Walasavage (Minersville, Pa./Mnersville) went 3-for-4 in the second as West Chester University swept a non-league softball doubleheader from host Goldey-Beacom College Thursday afternoon.
West Chester (22-6) received a two-hit, complete-game shutout from starter
Brooke Harner (Chadds Ford, Pa./Kennett) (4-0) in the opener, riding her right arm to a 2-0 blanking of Golden Beacom (4-14). Jr., left-hander
Amanda Houck (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) (14-2) tossed a six-inning shutout in the nightcap as the Golden Rams blew out the Lightning, 10-0, in a game shortened by the mercy rule.
The Golden Rams scored one run in the sixth and another in the seventh of the opener, before their bats came alive in game two.
Sara Ercolani (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) hit a RBI single in the sixth, and
Heidi McCollester (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) hit her second home run of the season in the seventh to provide all the offense Harner would need. The junior righty struck out seven in picking up her fourth win of the season.
In the night cap, West Chester put up a tally in the first and the fourth, before opening things up in the fifth and sixth and sending everyone home early. The Golden Rams plated three in the fifth and five in the sixth. The Rams three runs in the fifth scored on a RBI groundout, a wild pitch and RBI single. Ercolani doubled in a pair of runs, and
Alyssa Herion (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) doubled in another to highlight the big sixth inning.
West Chester travels to East Stroudsburg on Monday for a PSAC East doubleheader. That twinbill was originally scheduled for Saturday, but has been moved due to the weather forecast.
