No. 21 West Chester Sweeps Doubleheader At Holy Family

PHILADELPHIA – Jr., outfielder Madison Kelly (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) three-run home run in game one told the tale as West Chester's bats came alive in the first game to defeat Holy Family. The Golden Rams then took game two of the non-league doubleheader Saturday afternoon.

West Chester (32-8) took game one, 16-1 in five innings, after two players hit impactful home runs to solidify the outcome. The Golden Rams would also defeat the host Tigers, 1-0, in the nightcap.

Sarah Walasavage (Minersville, Pa./Minersville) hit a two-run homer in the top of the first inning, scoring Bri Garber (Willow Street, Pa./Lampeter-Strausburg) to take a 2-0. Walasavage was 2-for-2 in the opener.

However, Holy Family's Alina Ponce De Leon would the only run with a homer in the bottom of the first.

Walasavage later in the third, doubled home Garber and Kelly to push the score to, 4-1. Courtney Stump (Kutztown, Pa./ Kutztown) later singled home Kayla Holl (Hershey, Pa./Lower Dauphin) for her fourth RBI of the first game.

With the game at 5-1, Kelly's 3-run home run raised the score to 9-1. Stump, Ashely Flesch (Burke, Va./ Lake Braddock), and Holl came in to increase the lead.

During the fourth inning, two people were on base, before Kelly produced another double to bring them in. In the fifth, Heidi McCollister (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) singled, allowing two runners to advance as well as knocking in Caroline Adams (Media, Pa./Renaissance Academy). McCollister was 1-for-3 with two runs. Flesch would then walk, allowing Cat Hammer (Philadelphia, Pa./ Archbishop Ryan) to score and make it, 14-1. So. catcher Jess Fyock (Wilmington, De./Concord) doubled allowing McCollister and Monica Twardowski (Boothwyn, Pa./ Padua Academy) to score.

Jr., Right-hander Brooke Harner (Chadds Ford, Pa./Kennett) (6-2) earned the win in the first game, allowing three hits with one run, but also striking out three to seal the win.

During the nightcap, Jr., left-hander Amanda Houck (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) earned her 21st win of the season by striking out eight people in seven innings. The Golden Rams would find its only score during the fifth inning as sophomore shortstop Alyssa Herion (Avon Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) homered to center field.

West Chester will be on Tuesday as they travel to Shepherdstown, Wv to face Shepherd University in a non-league doubleheader. The first game is set for 2 p.m.
