WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The 20th-ranked West Chester softball squad swept visiting Millersville in a PSAC East softball doubleheader on South Campus Friday afternoon.
West Chester (35-9, 8-2 PSAC East) got a one-hit shutout from junior left-hander
Amanda Houck (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) in game one, riding a three-run blast from
Alyssa Herion (Avon Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) to the 3-0 win.
In the night cap,
Sarah Walasavage (Minersville, Pa./Minersville) hit a two-run shot, and
Heidi McCollester (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) added a solo homer to give the hosts the sweep over Millersville (12-24, 2-10).
For Houck, who earned the win inside the circle in both games, she tied the school record for wins in a single season while extending her school-record of consecutive winning decisions to 22 straight. She took a no-hitter into the seventh inning of game one, before an infield single broke up her bid for a third no-hitter this spring.
In the night cap, Houck came on in relief in the third inning with two runners on and nobody out. After loading the bases, Houck got out of the inning with just one inherited runner scoring.
Madison Kelly (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) had a double and a triple in game two.
West Chester hosts East Stroudsburg on Saturday at 1 p.m. on Senior Day.
