Toppi’s Hat Trick Helps Capture Snell Cup

Box Score COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Coming off a thrilling victory a day ago, No. 4 West Chester (5-0) carried that momentum today with a 4-1 victory over host Ursinus College (3-3) in the 71st annual Snell Cup.

How it Happened:
  • The Golden Rams got on the board just 14 minutes into the game when Kelsey Munster (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield HS) took a redirected pass from Caitie McNamara (Buderim, Australia/Nambour Christian College) and deposited it into the back of the net to give West Chester the 1-0 lead.
  • Rachal Toppi (Glassboro, NJ./Glassboro) took over from  here as she scored her first goal of the day just five minutes later off an assist from Munster to move the score to 2-0 in favor of the Golden Rams.
  • The senior would not stop there as she would add another goal before halftime when she tapped in a rebound off a save to give West Chester a 3-0 advantage.
  • Toppi produced the hat trick off another rebound move, making it 4-0.
  • Ursinus broke through in the 58th minute when Brooke Overly took an assist from Gabriela Howell and ripped a shot past Marissa Elizardo (North Wales, Pa./North Penn HS) to make the score 4-1.
  • Elizardo got the start in goal once again and earned the victory making three saves and surrendering just one goal in just over 58 minutes of work. Katie Dowling (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) would come in for the final 12 minutes and record one save to secure the victory.

Inside the Numbers:
  • The Golden Rams outshot their hosts by a wide margin as they held a 26-16 advantage in shots and a 13-5 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Ursinus did manage to hold a 10-6 edge in penalty corners on the.
  • This marks the third straight year that the Golden Rams have captured the Snell Cup.
  • With this victory West Chester increases their all-time series lead to 33-26-12.

The Golden Rams take to the road again on Wednesday when they travel to Kutztown for a 7 p.m. start.
