WEST CHESTER, Pa. - West Chester University and Wilmington University played to a 1-1 double overtime tie at Rockwell Field on a rainy and cold Wednesday afternoon.
West Chester (1-1-1) scored in the 58th minute to jump on top early. However, Wilmington (1-1-1) scored in the last minute of regulation on the team's first shot of the contest to knot things up and send it into overtime where nobody scored.
Nikki Zaso (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) buried a shot in the far corner standing off the right post to put West Chester on top, 1-0.
Brittaney Reffit (Calvert County, Md./Northern) played a beautiful ball into the area and found Zaso on about the six-yard line. That is now things stayed until the final minute of the contest when the Wildcasts began to push up and created their one and only scoring opportunity in regulation.
Nikki Caffey (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) almost caught Wilmington goalkeeper Kierstyn Williams off her line in the 65th minute when she lofted a shot from about 35 yards out that hit the crossbar and bounced over the goal. That would have given the Golden Rams a two-goal lead had it been just a little lower.
West Chester returns to league play on Saturday afternoon when Clarion comes for a visit to Rockwell Field at 12 p.m.
