No. 2 West Chester Knocks Off No. 1 East Stroudsburg

WEST CHESTER, Pa.-In a game with major postseason implications the No. 2 West Chester University field hockey team (14-2, 8-1 PSAC) was back in action on Wednesday afternoon against No. 1 East Stroudsburg (12-3, 7-1 PSAC). West Chester picked up a huge win defeating its guests by a final score of 1-0.

How it Happened:

  • In the 13th minute, Katie Thompson (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills) opened the scoring registering her 12th goal of the month of October with a heavy shot from the top right corner of the box to give West Chester the early 1-0 lead.

Inside the Numbers:

  • West Chester outshot its guests by a 15-6 margin including a dominating 9-3 advantage in the second half. West Chester also eneded the contest with an 11-2 advantage in shots on goal and a 4-3 advantage in penalty corners.
  • Marissa Elizardo (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) was sharp throughout the match making two solid saves whileher counterpart Maddie Richie worked hard all day making 10 big saves but it was not enough to avoid the loss.

Up Next:

West Chester will be on the road next Tuesday afternoon at LIU-Post with that game beginning at 4 p.m.

WC/ESU Keeney Postgame

Following the game both teams came together for a picture in rememberance of Warwick HS junior Field Hockey player # 33 Meghan Keeney who tragically passed away as a result of injuries suffered in a car crash earlier this week.
