West Chester Sweeps Molloy; Lokey Earns 500th Career Victory

CLERMONT, Fla. – The West Chester University softball team continued its spring break trip to Clermont Florida on Monday night competing in a day-night doubleheader against Molloy. The Golden Rams picked up the sweep taking game one 7-0 before winning game two 10-3. 

In the first game, the bats exploded for 14 hits along with seven runs and the Golden Rams also capitalized on a pair of Molloy errors in the 7-0 victory.
In the top of the first, Alyssa Herion (Avon Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) singled to center which scored Bri Garber (Willow Street, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) and Madison Kelly to give West Chester the 2-0 lead.

Garber crossed the plate again in the third inning, when Cat Hammer (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) singled through the right side to give West Chester the 3-0 lead.
Kelly recorded an RBI of her own in the fourth, when she doubled to left center to score Annamarie Hartman (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep).

In the top of the seventh, Emily Maseth doubled in Caroline Adams (Media, Pa./Renaissance Academy) and Sara Ercolani (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) to make score 6-0. Sarah Byham (Westampton, N.J./Holy Cross) pinch ran for Maseth and she came around to score on a single from Herion to make the score 7-0.

Amanda Houck (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) (6-2) pitched a gem once again as she went seven innings surrendering just three hits while striking out six.

In the second game, it was more of the same as West Chester posted a two spot in the first inning, to get things rolling once again as the Golden Rams cruised to a 10-3 victory.

Garber got things going in the first, when she reached on a bunt single down the third baseline and then proceeded to steal second which put her on second with no outs. Ercolani stepped in with one batter later with one out and laced a triple into the right center gap scoring Garber and giving West Chester the 1-0 lead. Maseth then recorded a sac fly to score Ercolani giving West Chester a 2-0 lead.

West Chester then proceeded to score five runs in the second inning, to open up a 7-0 lead just two innings into game two. The first run of the second inning scored when Hammer worked a bases loaded walk to score Heidi McCollester (West Chester, Pa./Henderson), thus, extending the lead to 3-0. Maseth followed this up with a two RBI single to centerfield scoring Garber and Ashley Flesch (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) while making the lead 5-0 in favor of the Golden Rams. West Chester was not done yet though as Herion recorded another two RBIs on a single up the middle which scored Maseth and Hammer making the lead 7-0 heading to the third.

In the bottom of the fourth, Maseth came around to score once again this time by virtue of a fielders choice from McCollester which extended the lead to 8-0 in favor of the Golden Rams.

Molloy managed to break through for two runs in the top of the fifth, which made the score 8-2 heading to the bottom of the fifth.  

Molloy broke through again in the sixth, scoring another run to the cut the lead to 8-3.

The Golden Rams tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, as Maseth scampered home on a wild pitch before McCollester doubled to right center to score Courtney Stump (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) to make the score 10-3.

Kelly Tinsman (Ewing, N.J./Notre Dame) (2-0) earned the victory going seven innings surrendering seven hits, three runs (one earned), while striking out three.

These two victories also gave Coach Diane Lokey her 500th career victory.

West Chester will be back in action tomorrow beginning at 2 p.m. against St. Thomas Aquinas.
