West Chester Tops Fairmont State 5-2

Clermont, Fla.- Seeking its fifth win in a row the West Chester University softball team(12-5) took to the field on Tuesday afternoon to square off against Fairmont State. West Chester earned the victory once again prevailing by a final score of 5-2.

West Chester had a hot start with three runs in the first inning, courtesy of RBI singles from Emily Maseth (Westminster, Md./Westminster) and Alyssa Herion (Avon Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) and a fielders choice RBI from Madison Kelly (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall), which gave WCU a commanding 3-0 lead heading to the second.

In the third inning, Fairmont State got one back to cut the deficit to 3-1.  West Chester quickly answered with a run of its own thanks to an RBI sac bunt off the bat of Kelly to score Maseth, which restored the Golden Rams three-run lead.

In the sixth, Fairmont State added another run courtesy of a homerun to left center, which cut the deficit just two making the score 4-2. Once again, West Chester answered right back with another run in the bottom half of the inning, when Heidi McCollester (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) drove the first pitch she saw down the left field line to score Jamie Klemas (South Brunswick, N.J./South Brunswick) making the score 5-2 in favor of West Chester.
