CLERMONT, Fla. – The West Chester University softball team (14-7) wrapped up its trip to the Sunshine State on Friday afternoon falling to No. 20 Southern New Hampshire by a final score of 2-1.
Southern New Hampshire broke through first scoring two runs during the bottom half of the first to race out to an early 2-0 lead.
West Chester battled back in the top of the seventh, as
Cat Hammer (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) led the inning off with a double to left center before
Caroline Adams (Media, Pa./Renaissance Academy) entered as a pinch runner. Adams later scored on a double to left off the bat of
Madison Kelly (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall), which cut the deficit to just one making the score 2-1. Following this the Golden Rams had runners on second and third with no outs, but they were unable to bring one across to extend the game.
Amanda Houck (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) (8-3) got the start in game two on Friday and she went seven innings surrendering just four hits and two runs while striking out three in the loss.
West Chester is scheduled to be back in action on Wednesday March 21
st against Wilmington beginning at 2 p.m.
