CLERMONT, Fla.- The West Chester University softball team (6-4) continued its early season non-conference schedule on Friday morning squaring off against Cedarville (9-8) in game one of the PFX Spring Games in Clermont, Florida. Cedarville earned the victory by a final score of 4-1.
After a scoreless top half of the first inning West Chester got on the board quickly in the bottom half as
Madison Kelly (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) led the inning off with a double to centerfield to set the Golden Rams up nicely.
Bri Garber (Willow Street, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) was next up and she wasted little time as she drove the 1-1 offering to centerfield which scored Kelly giving West Chester the 1-0 lead. West Chester continued to threaten but Cedarville pitcher Morgan Aborgast was able to settle down and work out of a bases-loaded jam to hold West Chester to just one run in the first.
In the top half of the third inning, Houck found herself in a jam as Heather Lord reached on a single to start off the inning and thanks to some crafty baserunning she managed to reach third with no outs. The veteran Houck remained unperturbed by the situation as she quickly went to work striking out the next three batters on just 13 pitches to preserve the 1-0 lead heading to the bottom of the third.
In the top of the seventh, Cedarville capitalized off an
Alyssa Herion (Avon Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) throwing error to start the inning which led to a four run inning to give Cedarville the 4-1 lead heading to the bottom of the seventh.
Amanda Houck (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) (3-2) took the ball for West Chester to start game one on Friday morning and she went the distance recording nine strikeouts while surrendering five hits, and four runs with just one earned to take the loss this morning.
