Erie, Pa.- The West Chester University women's lacrosse team (13-0, 8-0 PSAC) took to the road on Saturday afternoon looking to continue its historic start to the season against Edinboro.
West Chester opened the game on a 5-0 run thanks in large part to a hat trick by
Tatum Altman (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) as well as goals from
Drew McKinney (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) and
Alexis Einsig (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) in the opening 18 minutes of play. Edinboro finally broke through with 9:12 remaining in the half, to cut the lead to 5-1. West Chester then used three consecutive goals from
Maggie Stella (Doylestown, Pa./CB East) and another goal from McKinney to carry a 9-1 lead into the half.
The second half was more of the same as West Chester poured in another eight goals thanks to another goal from Stella, two from
Tara Morrissey (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan, one from
Sami Barnett (Glenolden, Pa./Inteboro), as well as goals from
Trisha Baud (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford), Jess Mellon (Havertown, Pa./Haverford), Emily Schulze (Harleysville, Pa./North Penn) and
Rachel Noble (Wall, N.J./Wall).
Julianne Clemens (Springfield, Pa./Springfield Delco) played the first half facing two shots making one save while allowing one goal to pick up the victory.
Nicole Martins (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) played the second half and made two saves of her own to shutout Edinboro in the second half.
West Chester outshot Edinboro by a huge 41-6 margin including a 29-4 advantage in shots on goal. In terms of clears West Chester was successful on 13-17 clears while Edinboro only recorded eight successful clears on 15 attempts.
West Chester will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon at home against Bloomsburg beginning at 4 p.m.
