WEST CHESTER, Pa.- The West Chester University softball team (30-11, 10-2 PSAC East) welcomed PSAC East rival Shippensburg (18-12, 6-4 PSAC East) to the West Chester softball field this afternoon for an all-important PSAC doubleheader. West Chester picked up the split once again wining game one 3-2 before dropping game two 9-7 to split the season series with Shippensburg.

Game One: WCU 3 Shippensburg 2
  • After a quiet first three and a half innings West Chester broke though for one run in the bottom of the fourth, when Sara Ercolani (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) singled, which led to Alyssa Herion (Avon Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) scoring after Cat Hammer (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) got herself in a run down between second and third.
  • This 1-0 lead grew in the bottom of the fifth, when Madison Kelly (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) doubled to center to score Caroline Adams (Media, Pa./Renaissance Academy) to give West Chester a 2-0 lead. A few batters later Hammer dropped a single in down the left field line to score Kelly and give West Chester a commanding 3-0 lead.
  • Shippensburg answered in the top of the sixth with two runs of its own to cut the lead to 3-2 but Amanda Houck (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) (20-3) was able to work out of trouble and limit the damage to just two.

Emily Maseth (Westminster, Md./Westminster) got in on the fun next as she laced a double to right center to score hammer and extend the lead to 4-0.
