West Chester Defeats Lock Haven 3-1

LOCK HAVEN, Pa.- The West Chester University softball team (42-13) was back in action on Friday morning against Lock Haven (37-13) and the Golden Rams took the win by a final score of 3-1 to move onto the final game of the Regional Pod tomorrow afternoon.

Lock Haven benefited greatly from an error in the first inning, to grab an early 1-0 lead heading to the second.

Annamarie Hartman (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) led off the third with the Golden Rams first base knock off the afternoon as she ripped a double into left center to put a runner on second to lead off the inning. Unfortunately, this is all the Golden Rams would get in this inning as Lock Haven starter Bekah Slattery settled down to retire the next three batters and send the game to the bottom of the third with West Chester trailing 1-0.

In the top of the fifth, West Chester finally broke through thanks to a bases clearing, two-out, three-RBI double from Madison Kelly (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall), which gave West Chester its first lead of the game at 3-1 heading to the bottom of the fifth.

Amanda Houck (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) pitched a gem of a game against the Bald Eagles going the distance surrendering just  three hits and one unearned run while striking out three to pick up the victory and improve to 29-5 on the year. Slattery was on point for Lock Haven as well as she went seven innings as well surrendering six hits and three runs while striking out seven in the loss.

West Chester is done for the afternoon as they will now await the winner of the Lock Haven/(Chowan/Shepherd) game in the finals. West Chester will only need to take one game on Saturday in order to secure its place in the Super Regionals.
