Box Score 2 QUAKERTOWN, Pa.- The West Chester University softball team (40-12) continued its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament run on Friday afternoon against Seton Hill and Lock Haven. Needing a win in both games West Chester did just that defeating Seton Hill 5-3 in game one before cruising past Lock Haven 6-1 to punch its ticket to the PSAC Championship game.
Game One: West Chester: 5 Seton Hill 3
- Seton Hill started the game off with a bang as Laken Ryan connected on a solo home run in the top of the first to take an early 1-0 lead. This lead did not last long as Bri Garber (Willow Street, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) took the 0-1 offering deep to left center to even the score at 1-1 heading to the second.
- Courtney Stump (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) posted another run in the bottom of the second, with a sac fly to center to score Sara Ercolani (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East),which made the score 2-1.
- This held up until the top of the seventh when Seton Hill scored another two runs in the top of the seventh, to take the 3-2 lead heading to the bottom of the seventh.
- In the bottom of the seventh inning, Cat Hammer (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) delivered in a huge way with a towering three-run walk-off home run to center field to give West Chester the dramatic 5-3 victory.
- Brooke Harner (Chadds Ford, Pa./Kennett) got the start inside the circle and she lasted two innings surrendering just three hits and one run before exiting in favor of Amanda Houck (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley). Houck entered for the final five innings and she surrendered just two runs (one earned) and three hits while striking out three to pick up her 26th victory of the season.
Game Two: West Chester 6 Lock Haven 1
- In need of a win once again the West Chester Softball team did just that rolling past Lock Haven by a final score of 6-1.
- West Chester scored first as Emily Maseth (Westminster, Md./Westminster) came through with a big three-run home run in the third inning, which gave West Chester a commanding 3-0 lead.
- This lead grew again in the sixth, when Alyssa Herion (Avon Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) recorded a home run of her own as she hit a three-run shot to left center to give West Chester a commanding 6-0 lead.
- Lock Haven managed to push one across in the top of the seventh but this is all the Bald Eagles could muster as West Chester closed out the game to pick up the 6-1 victory.
- Houck got the ball once again in game two and she went the distance surrendering just six hits and one unearned run while walking two and striking out three. The normally dominant Bekah Slattery took the loss for Lock Haven as she went six innings surrendering 11 hits and six runs while walking four and striking out just three Golden Rams.
With their home runs this afternoon Hammer and Herion are now both just home run from away from tying the career home run record as they have each now hit 28 home runs.
West Chester will look to defend its conference title tomorrow afternoon against Gannon beginning at 12 p.m.
