West Chester Plays to 1-1 Draw with East Stroudsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa.-The West Chester University women's soccer team (0-0-1) opened up its 2018 season on Thursday afternoon on the road at East Stroudsburg (0-0-1) for a pivotal early season matchup. Both teams found the back of the net in the second half, but each team was only able to net one, thus, ending the game in a 1-1 draw.

How it Happened:
  • In the 49th minute, West Chester opened the scoring thanks to a goal from Nikki Caffey (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) off an assist from Linzi Wolfe (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) to stake West Chester to a 1-0 advantage.
  • Unfortunately, this lead did not last long as Monica Wood scored a goal of her own off an assist from Alex Pickett to tie the score at 1-1 in the 59th minute.
  • The two sides played two overtime periods but neither team was able to break through, which led to the season opener ending in a draw.

Inside the Numbers:
  • West Chester held a narrow advantage in shots at 14-13 although shots on goal were even at 6-6. East Stroudsburg held the advantage in shots during OT as the Warriors held a 5-1 advantage in shots on goal during the extra session.
  • West Chester also held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks thanks in large part to a 3-1 advantage during the first half.
  • McKenna Mullin (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) played the full 110 minutes making five saves while allowing just one goal, which matched her East Stroudsburg counterpart Megan Young who made five saves of her own while allowing just one goal over the course of her 110 minutes of action.
