WEST CHESTER, Pa. - West Chester University's field hockey squad maintained its No. 1 ranking in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division II national rankings on Tuesday, and today the Golden Rams put that ranking on the line against No. 5 Shippensburg University in the pouring rain at Vonnie Gros Field at 4 p.m.
West Chester (12-0, 5-0 PSAC) is the only remaining undefeated school in Division II, and they sit atop the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference standings. Meanwhile, Shippensburg (7-4, 4-1) invades Vonnie Gros as the two-time defending national champions and looking to avenge a 1-0 loss to the Golden Rams earlier in the season. West Chester features the PSAC Offensive Player of the Week in senior
Katie Thompson (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills) while Shippensburg features the nation's leading scorer in Jazmin Petrantonio. Both Thompson and Petrantonio appear among the top three in almost every scoring category in Division II.
With Lindenwood's 3-1 win over Saint Anselm a little over one week ago, West Chester's 9-game scoreless streak is now the longest in the country. Incidentally, Saint Anselm's streak was stopped at nine on Oct. 7.
