WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Senior
Katie Thompson (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills) registered a hat trick and was in on all four goals as No. 1-ranked West Chester splished and splashed its way past No. 5 Shippensburg, 4-1, at rain-soaked Vonnie Gros Field Wednesday afternoon.

West Chester (13-0, 6-0 PSAC) didn't seem to be slowed by the Nor'easter rain storm that was flooding the East Coast. Shippensburg (7-5, 4-2) managed to put an end to the home team's consecutive scoreless string at 632 minutes, 44 seconds. However, the contest was well in hand by then.

How it happened:
- Katie Thompson opened the scoring 10 minutes into the contest and then assisted on Emma Velez (Coatesville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) tally in the 22nd minute, before tallying once again three minutes later to give West Chester a 3-0 lead at the break.
- Thompson and Velez teamed up once again in the 45th minute to give the home team a 4-0 lead.
- Shippensburg scored in the 58th minute to get on the scoreboard.

- Freshman goalkeeper Claire Nielsen (Wescosville, Pa./Emmaus) made three saves to record her 13th win of the season without a loss.
- Shippensburg goalie Megan Lay made 11 saves in the loss.
