Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Senior Duo Powers West Chester Past Concord In NCAA Tournament

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Seniors Jenny Bail (Carlisle, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) and Madison Baxter (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown East) each recorded one goal and one assist as West Chester University women's soccer defeated Concord University 2-0 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday afternoon at Slippery Rock University.

The Golden Rams have won an NCAA Tournament game in three of the last four years. They'll play host Slippery Rock in the second round on Saturday at 1 p.m.

West Chester freshman goalkeeper Hayley McGee (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland) recorded the first shutout of her college career in her first NCAA Tournament game, making five saves in the process. It was only the fourth time this season McGee has played a full game in goal. She allowed one goal in each of the last three.

West Chester and Concord played a scoreless first half on Thursday, but the Golden Rams led 7-5 in shots and 3-0 in corner kicks at that point.

Just 2:54 into the second half, Bail crossed a pass into the box from the far right side of the field. It whizzed past Golden Rams sophomore Arin Coleman (Farmington, N.M. / Farmington), who provided enough distraction to leave Baxter wide open for the goal.

Baxter returned the favor in the 77th minute, sending a pass up field that Bail corralled before trucking through the defense to give West Chester a 2-0 lead. Bail has seven goals and three assists on the season. Baxter has five goals and four assists.

Junior Hannah Zach (Doylestown, Pa. / Central Bucks East) led the Golden Rams with four shots against Concord, two of which were on goal.

West Chester last played Slippery Rock on October 20 of last season. The Golden Rams lost 1-0 at Rockwell Field.
