CLEARWATER, Fl.-Looking to rebound after a pair of disappointing losses a day ago, the West Chester University softball team (0-3) was back in action on Saturday morning opposite Lee (Tn.) (5-3) West Chester held an early lead, however, Lee proved to be too much in the 8-2 loss.
In the top half of the second, West Chester took its first lead of the weekend when
Alisha Patel (Burlington, N.J./Burlington Township) singled home
Courtney Stump (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) who had reached on a double to left earlier in the inning. This lead grew moments later when
Reilly Gearhart (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim) singled in Patel to give the Golden Rams a 2-0 advantage.
Unfortunately, Lee answered back with three runs of its own in the home half of the second before registering another four runs in the third to take a 7-2 lead.
Lee grew its leading during the fourth inning of play as the Flames added one more run to take an 8-2 lead heading to the fifth.
West Chester attempted to mount a late comeback but Lee managed to hold on for the 8-2 victory over the Golden Rams.
Gearhart took the loss n this contest to fall to 0-2 on the year while Stevie Baird earned her third victory of the season to improve to 3-0 on the year.
West Chester will be back in action later this afternoon opposite Tampa beginning at 2:30 p.m.
