CLERMONT, Fl. – The West Chester University softball team (11-10) concluded its Spring Break trip to the Sunshine State on Friday morning with a doubleheader opposite Southern New Hampshire (12-4). West Chester dropped game one 3-0 before falling game two by a score of 3-0 as well.
Game One:
- In the top of the first, Southern New Hampshire raced out to an early 1-0 lead before starting pitcher Kelly Tinsman (Ewing, N.J./Notre Dame) worked out of trouble to limit the damage to just one run.
- West Chester threatened during the home half of the fifth as Courtney Stump (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) led off the inning with a single to center, however, West Chester was unable to bring her around to score, which preserved Southern New Hampshire's 1-0 lead.
- In the top of the seventh, Southern New Hampshire added two more runs to its lead to claim a 3-0 lead heading to the bottom of the seventh inning.
- Tinsman (2-3) took the loss in the circle as she went the distance scattering five hits and three runs (one earned) while striking out a pair in the loss. Maddy Borone was impressive in the circle for Southern New Hampshire as she registered a complete-game shutout allowing just three hits while striking out seven to open the doubleheader.
Game Two:
- In the top of the fourth, Bri Garber (Willow Street, Pa./Lampeter Strasburg) got things started with a leadoff double to start the inning before moving to third on a fly ball to right off the bat of Emily Maseth (Westminster, Md./Westminster). Unfortunately, West Chester was unable to bring Garber home to score, which would have given the Golden Rams the 1-0 lead midway through the contest.
- In the bottom of the fifth inning, Southern New Hampshire plated the first runs of the contest via a three-run home run to left center to claim a commanding 3-0 lead heading to the sixth.
- West Chester threatened once again during the top of the sixth as the Golden Rams loaded the bases but they were unable to score to send the game to the home half of the inning still trailing 3-0.
- Reilly Gearhart (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) (6-4) took the loss this afternoon after scattering seven hits and three runs over six innings of work.
