WEST CHESTER, Pa. –
Devon Mela (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock South) and
Maggie Stella (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) each scored four goals to power fourth-ranked West Chester past No. 12 Pace, 0-4, on a wet and rainy Thursday afternoon at Vonnie Gros Field.
Â
West Chester (5-1) scored the first five goals of the game and never looked back against Pace (3-3) in the battle of nationally ranked opponents. Stella finished with seven points (4G, 3A), before she exited the contest. Mela came off the bench to score her four goals while
Sami Barnett (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) finished with a hat trick and an assist.
Â
Julieanne Clemens (Springfield, Pa./Springfield-DELCO) made six saves in the cage to improve to 5-1. She thwarted Pace's first three shot attempts, including one free position, to spark the Golden Rams early on when the Setters controlled the time of possession for the first four minutes of the game.
Â
From there, West Chester converted its first four free positions and dominated the draw controls en route to its 5-0 lead to open the game. Stella netted the game's first two goals on a free position and then assisted on a
Tatum Altman (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) tally.
Â
West Chester travels to Seton Hill on Saturday for a PSAC contest against the Griffins.
