Women's Basketball PSAC Tournament Run Comes to a Close vs Bloomsburg on Wednesday Evening

BLOOMSBURG, Pa.- The West Chester University women's basketball team (16-14) saw its 2018-19 season come to a close on Wednesday evening as the Golden Rams fell to the Bloomsburg Huskies (20-9) in the PSAC Quarterfinals by a final score of 58-52.

How it Happened:
  • In the first quarter, West Chester captured an early lead as the Golden Rams held an 18-14 lead heading to the second quarter.
  • The second quarter was a very low scoring affair as neither side eclipsed the 10-point barrier as West Chester registered nine points while Bloomsburg posted eight points of its own to allow West Chester to carry a 27-22 lead to the halftime break.
  • In the third quarter, the two teams kicked things off by trading baskets for much of the early going before a late run by Bloomsburg allowed the Huskies to carry a slim 41-39 lead to the fourth and final quarter of play.
  • West Chester opened the fourth on an 11-5 run to capture a 50-46 lead midway through the final stanza before Bloomsburg closed out the contest on a 12-2 run of its own to earn the 58-52 over the Golden Rams.
Golden Ram Rundown:
  • Destiny Jefferson (Scranton, Pa./West Scranton) led all-scorers once again this evening as she finished the contest with 19 points, six rebounds, and a pair of assists. Madison Torresin (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) ended with a double-double as well as she tied for the team-high in rebounding with 11 boards while also pouring in 14 points in what will likely be the final game of her career wearing the purple and gold. Gabrielle Troisi (Norristown, Pa./Pope John Paul II) was the other Golden Ram to come down with 11 rebounds while also chipping in five points and adding a pair of assists.
  • As a team, West Chester shot 33.9 % (19-of-56) from the field while also shooting 37.5 % (6-fo-16) from beyond the arc and 8-of-14 (57.1 %) from the line in the loss. West Chester also ended the contest with a plus-six advantage in rebounding (39-33).
  • Jefferson ends the season just six points shy of 500 points for the year as she registered 494 points, which also ranks sixth in the team's single-season history. Jefferson also ends the season ranked sixth in single-season program history in three-point field goals made with 66. Troisi also ends the season with 165 assists on the year, which ranks the junior guard second in the programs single-season history.
A Look at the Huskies:
  • Megan Brandt led a trio of Huskies in double-figures as she scored 18 points while Emma Saxton ended with 17 and Bella Ricci had 10 to lead the Huskies to victory. Saxton registered seven rebounds to tie Marissa Molnar for the team-lead in rebounding.
