WEST CHESTER, Pa. - West Chester University women's basketball had won three straight games before losing 72-62 to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division opponent Kutztown University on Saturday afternoon at Hollinger Field House.
The Golden Rams (6-10 overall, 4-7 PSAC) led 32-31 after junior center
Justyn Roberts (Harrisburg, Pa. / C.D. East) made a layup with 1:42 remaining in the first half. However, the Golden Bears (11-6, 8-3) took the lead shortly thereafter and maintained it for the rest of the game.
Redshirt senior
Alexis Anderson (Allentown, Pa. / Louis E. Dieruff) led West Chester in scoring for the second game in a row, dropping 16 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field and 8-of-10 shooting from the free throw line.
The Golden Rams went 16-of-19 from the free throw line against the Golden Bears. They're shooting an impressive 89.1 percent from the line over the past two games.
Reigning PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week in WCU freshman guard
Leah Johnson (Columbus, N.J. / Notre Dame) had five steals for the second time in the last three games. Johnson also chipped in with 10 points, four rebounds and three assists on Saturday. She's leading the team at 12.6 points per game this season.
As a team, West Chester forced 22 turnovers and only committed 16 throughout the game, but 26 fourth-quarter points from Kutztown was too much for the Golden Rams to overcome.
West Chester is at home again on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. facing East Stroudsburg University in another PSAC East battle.
