Peters Scores Late to Lift Women's Soccer to Victory over No. 3 Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, PA – The West Chester women's soccer team powered past the previously unbeaten and No. 3 ranked Kutztown, 2-1 Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Rams third-ranked Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) rival, Kutztown, held a strong attack from the start taking a shot on goal in the second minute.

Kutztown's (10-1-0) early offense paid dividends as the Golden Bears led 1-0 at halftime after forward, Gabby Kane, scored in the sixth minute to give the hosts the early advantage.

West Chester's (6-2-1) offense picked up the intensity in the second half after Kaitlynn Haughey (Philadelphia, PA / Penn Charter) crossed to Maggie Lena (Santa Monica, CA / Santa Monica / Marquette), Lena recorded her first goal of the season in the 47th minute to even the score at 1-1.

With five minutes left in the match, a Lauren Corless (Old Bridge, NJ / Old Bridge) pass sent Jenna Peters (Fairless Hills, PA / Pennsbury) to the goal to seal the comeback for the Golden Rams.

The two teams both totaled five shots on goal, and West Chester goalkeeper, Hayley McGee (Mechanicsburg, PA / Cumberland), made an impressive four saves in the 90 minutes. Emme Wolfel made three saves for the Golden Bears.

West Chester returns to action at Eiler-Martin Stadium on Wednesday to take on East Stroudsburg University at 4:30 p.m.
