West Chester (16-4) and Assumption (20-1) opened the 2021 campaign back in September with the visiting Golden Rams earning a 2-1 overtime victory over the Greyhounds. Today's semifinal is a rematch of that contest.
The Golden Rams are making their eighth appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament since re-classifying in 2011. They won the national title their first two years at Division II (2011, 2012) and enter this year's tournament as the defending national champions, having beaten Saint Anselm College, 2-1, on the very same field in 2019.
West Chester makes its third straight and seventh overall appearance in the semifinals, following appearances in 2011-12, 2014-15, 2018 and 2019. The Golden Rams are a combined 8-4 overall in the Division II Tournament and a perfect 3-0 when they reach the national championship game. West Chester is 3-3 in the national semifinal round.
West Chester's opponent in the semifinals is a rematch of its season opener back in September. The Golden Rams prevailed in that contest, 2-1 in overtime. Assumption's Mia Salah put the Greyhounds on top in the 51st minute. However,
Paige Wolfe scored 25 seconds later to even the score.
Valerie van Kuijck got the OT game-winner five minutes into extra time.
A WEST CHESTER WIN TODAY WOULD ...
-Â Â advance West Chester to the NCAA Division II National Championship Game for the
second straight year and fourth time overall.
-Â Â mark the second time since re-classifying to Division II that West Chester has
reached the national championship game two straight years in a row (2011-12).
-Â Â increase West Chester's record to 17-4 overall on the season and 9-4 in the NCAA
   Division II Tournament.
