Ann Carozza (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) was named Athlete of the Week after continuing her stellar senior season this weekend at the Total Performance Invite hosted by Kenyon.
Carozza began her weekend by helping the 200-free relay team to a victory with a time of 1:33.48 and an NCAA "B" cut time before winning the 50-free with a season-best and lower "B" cut time of 23.10 seconds. On Friday night in the 100 fly, Carozza won with a time of 52.67 seconds that served as an NCAA "A" qualifying time while also shattering the PSAC record and setting a new pool record in the process. Carozza also helped the 200 and 800 medley relay squads to victories with B cut times of 1:41.85 and 7:24.95, respectively. On Saturday in final day of competition, Carozza posted two more automatic NCAA qualifying times while breaking a PSAC record and team record in the 400 freestyle relay and helping them qualify for nationals. Carozza won the 200 butterfly in 1 minute, 57.99 seconds that broke the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference record in that event. She also led off the 400 free relay with a time in the 100 that broke former WCU great Jackie Borkowski's school record and was an NCAA 'A" cut time. The 400 free relay posted a time of 3:22.74 that set a new PSAC mark and qualified it for nationals.
West Chester will head down south for a portion of the winter break. The Golden Rams will be back in the pool up north on Jan. 22 at Delaware.
