Mens Soccer Ends Regular Season With Non-Conference Victory

WEST CHESTER, PA- On the final day of regular season play for the Golden Rams, West Chester honored their seniors on which would be their final regular season matchup at Rockwell Field. The Golden Rams welcomed Holy Family University to campus, as West Chester looked to keep the winning streak rolling, and the momentum completely on their side going into the PSAC Tournament.
Early on, it felt as if both sides were evenly matched. Both teams were heavily physical, with two early yellow cards, one for each side early on in the first half. Even though they were seemingly evenly matched, Holy Family managed to slip past the West Chester defense, sending a quick shot past the Golden Rams to make it 1-0 just before the 19th minute. However, after being given a crucial penalty, Kresstoph Whittick (Sophomore / Whitehall, PA / Whitehall) capitalized on a penalty kick miss, bouncing it past the Holy Family goal to make it a tie game at the 32nd minute. In the first half, West Chester outshot Holy Family 7-3. The seniors were honored at halftime, as Doug Goitia (Senior / Mount Pocono, PA / Pocono Mountain East),Connor Sullivan (Senior / Bensalem, PA / William Penn Charter) , Austin Eveland (Senior / Kennett Square, PA / Kennett) , Craig Potts (Senior / Stewartstown, PA/ Kennard-Dale), and Matthew Good (Senior / Denver, PA / Garden Spot) were brought out to midfield with their families besides them. Shortly after playing resumed in the second half, Tommy Bodenschatz (Freshman / Royersford, PA / Spring-Ford) took advantage of the confusion of the Holy Family defense, setting a goal through to make it 2-1 in the 49thminute of play. West Chester once again outshot Holy Family in the second half, with 10 total shots to Holy Family's 5.

In the end, West Chester held on to beat Holy Family University 2-1 in full time. West Chester's regular season play has officially ended, and the Golden Rams will enter the PSAC Tournament this Tuesday, welcoming rival Millersville University to Rockwell Field at a time TBA.
