WEST CHESTER, PA – The West Chester women's soccer team (11-3-2, 11-3-2) squared off against No.3 Kutztown (17-1-0, 15-1-0) on Saturday afternoon in a game with major playoff implications. West Chester battled throughout but fell by a final of 1-0 after a mid second half tally by Kutztown.

The Golden Bears started out the first half with a strong attacking offensive squad taking a shot in the first minute, Golden Ram's goalkeeper, Hayley McGee (Mechanicsburg, PA / Cumberland, held strong making her first save of five saves on the match.

The first half ended with no score after Alyson Cutter's (Warrington, PA / Central Bucks South) shot to the bottom right corner of the goal was saved by Kutztown goalkeeper Cassandra Baker.

Kutztown's offense persisted into the second half as the Golden Bears eventually broke the tie in the 57th minute to take a 1-0 lead, which they would go on to win by.

West applied steady pressure throughout the match and topped Kutztown in corner kicks 4-2.

Kutztown totaled six shots on goal, and West Chester's McGee made an impressive five saves in the 90 minutes. The Golden Rams took three shots on Kutztown's goal, but Baker saved all three for the Golden Bears to keep the potent Golden Ram offense off the scoreboard.

West Chester entered the day needing a win or tie vs the Golden Bears in order to control its own destiny in the hunt for the No. 2 seed in the upcoming PSAC Tournament. Following this result, West Chester will now await the results of the Bloomsburg/Millersville contest, which is being played later this afternoon to determine the location of Tuesday's PSAC Quarterfinal vs Bloomsburg. Should Bloomsburg emerge victorious from this contest vs Millersville, West Chester will travel up to Bloomsburg while the Golden Rams would be able to remain home if the Huskies tie or fall to the Marauders.
