West Chester, Pa. - Thanks to three combined home runs, West Chester swept visiting Mansfield Saturday afternoon in a PSAC East softball doubleheader. The Golden Rams won game one, 13- 4, and took game two, 17-6. Both contests were shortened to five innings.

West Chester (4-0, 4-0 PSAC East) scored 30 runs, banged out 31 hits and knocked in 24 runs in the 10 innings of Saturday's doubleheader against Mansfield (0-4, 0-4). The Golden Rams smashed out nine extra-base hits in the two games, including three home runs.

To start off game one, sophomore
Trisha Kopinetz (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove) hit a home run in the bottom of the first to put the Golden Rams on the board. West Chester was able to score six more runs in the second inning with a triple from fifth-year senior,
Bri Garber (Willow Street, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) and a single that helped bring in sophomore
Madison Melvin (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca). Kopinetz nailed her second home run of the game in the top of the fourth to stretch the lead to 9-0.

The Mounties responded in the top of the fifth, scoring four runs on a grand slam by Madison Jean. However, West Chester was able to end the game early on a walk-off double from senior
Jamie Klemas (South Brunswick, NJ./South Brunswick), which gave the hosts an eight-run lead after five.

The Golden Rams scored five runs in each of the first three frames to put the game out of reach early. Garber and Klemas had a pair of run-scoring singles. West Chester added two more in the first to take a 5-0 lead.

Mansfield did not answer till the top of the third when Hannah Brietigan doubled to right center field, allowing two runs to score. They were the first runs yielded by freshman hurler
Anna Torrens (2-0) in her first two college starts. She opened up her college career with 7.2 scoreless innings. Fifth-year senior
Courtney Stump (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) hit a home run in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 17-3. The Mounties were able to score three more runs in the top of the fifth before ending the game 17-6 in five innings.

INSIDE THE STATS| GAME ONE
- Freshman Mary Picozzi (Collegeville, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) picked up the win inside the circle for the Golden Rams with three strikeouts. She surrendered just one hit in 3.2 innings of work. She walked six.
- Senior Jen Hanshaw (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) threw the last 1.1. She gave up three earned runs on three hits. She struck out one and walked one.
- Kopinetz went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and four RBI.
- Melvin was 3-for-4 with three runs of her own.
- The top three hitters in the order combined for eight hits and nine RBI.

- Freshman Anna Torrens (Holmes, Pa./Hadley) registered four strikeouts. She pitched four innings, allowing three runs on a pair of hits.
- Melvin and Garber combined for four stolen bases for the game.

The Golden Rams are home again next Sunday for a doubleheader against Holy Family University. The games are scheduled for 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
