Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

No. 5 West Chester Topples Shippensburg in Season Opener, 20-6

SHIPPENSBURG, PA – Fifth-year senior Tatum Altman (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) scored a game-high seven goals, and transfer Hannah Stanislawczyk (Mohnton, Pa./Gov. Mifflin) added four goals and an assist in her Purple & Gold debut, as visiting West Chester downed host Shippensburg, 20-6, Wednesday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) women's lacrosse match.

West Chester (1-0, 1-0 PSAC) jumped out to a 4-1 lead on a tally from Altman, Tricia Baud (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford)Kelly Baumann (South Huntington, N.Y./Walt Whitman) and Stanislawczyk. However, the Raiders held the Golden Rams scoreless over the next 12 minutes in an attempt to stay in the game. But, Baumann and Altman scored the next three goals to get the visitor's offense back on track with over seven minutes left.

Ship's Gabby Savarino netted her second of the half to end that mini run. However, West Chester closed out the first half on a 5-0 spurt that gave the Golden Rams a 12-2 advantage heading into the locker room. Drew McKinney (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) fueled that run with a pair of goals.

Altman finished off her big day with four more tallies in the second half. Stanislawczyk added two more, and McKinney and fellow fifth-year senior Tara Morrissey (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) had the other in the final 30 minutes.

Senior goalkeeper Julianne Clemens (Springfield, Pa./Springfield-DELCO) made five saves in the first half to pick up the win in the cage. Sophomore Jessica Gorr (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) made four saves in the second half.

Savarino finished with a hat trick for Shippensburg (0-3, 0-2 PSAC).

West Chester opens its home slate on Saturday against Millersville at Vonnie Gros Field at 1 p.m.
