BLOOMSBURG, PA –
Kelly Baumann (South Huntington, NY/Walt Whitman) scored four goals as fifth-ranked West Chester used six unanswered tallies in the second half to erase a four-goal deficit and come from behind to beat host Bloomsburg, 10-8, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division showdown at Steph Pettit Stadium Saturday.
West Chester (4-0, 4-0 PSAC East) remains alone atop the Eastern Division standings following wins this past week over the next two closest opponents, East Stroudsburg and Bloomsburg (3-2, 3-2).
West Chester trailed 8-4 early in the second half when the Golden Rams finally got their offense in gear and ran off six straight markers to take control of the game. Backup goalkeeper,
Jessica Gorr (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) made four saves and allowed just two goals in the second half to pick up the win in relief.
Reserve forward
Meg O'Donnell (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) notched a pair of goals off the bench to fuel that late run.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the first three-minutes, Bloomsburg's Kelsey Closs scored for the Huskies on a free position to put the Huskies up, 1-0.
- WCU's Kelly Baumann (South Huntington, NJ./Albright) scored to put the Golden Rams on the board six minutes into the first half and tie the game, 1-1.
- Junior Lindsay Monigle (Rehoboth Beach, Del./Cape Henlopen) scored an unassisted goal give West Chester a 2-1 lead.
- Bloomsburg went on to score three unanswered goals to stretch the lead 4-2.
- Baumann scored another goal assisted by Monigle to bring WCU back on the board to 4-3.
- Bloomsburg scored again to bring the score to 5-3, before WCU's senior Trisha Baud (West Deptford, Pa./West Deptford) answered with a goal from senior Tara Morrissey (Downingtown, Pa/Bishop Shanahan).
- Before going into halftime, Bloomsburg scored to give the Huskies a two-goal lead after 30 minutes of play.
- The first two goals of the second half were scored by Bloomsburg, giving them a four-goal lead, 8-4.
- West Chester then scored last six goals of the game to complete the comeback.
