Softball Splits DH with East Stroudsburg
EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - West Chester University's softball team split a doubleheader on the road against East Stroudsburg Monday afternoon. The Golden Rams came up short in the first game, 7-2, but bounced back in game two to win, 4-3. 
 
West Chester improves to 13-5 overall and 9-5 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division on the season.
 
GAME ONE
  • East Stroudsburg put the first runs on the board when Sofia Cecchin doubled to left center field to bring in the RBI in the bottom of the first.
  • The Golden Rams responded in the top of the second with a homerun from senior Jamie Klemas (South Brunswick, NJ./South Brunswick) to center field.
  • In the bottom of the second, ESU's Lexi Spencer doubled to left field to allow the Warriors to advance on the throw to grab another RBI. Ashley Spencer grounded out to second base in the bottom of the third to put the Warriors up 3-1.
  • Junior Emily Kim (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) reached on a fielder's choice to get the RBI and to make the score 3-2.
  • In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Warriors scored on a fly out to center field, ground out to third base, and single to right center field. ESU stretched their lead to 6-1.
  • To round out the game, Spencer singled to center field to end the game at 7-2.
 
GAME TWO
  • The Golden Rams started game two with a single to center field from Klemas to collect the RBI and advance WCU 1-0.
  • In the top of the third, fifth year Bri Garber (Willow Street, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) doubled to left center field to put West Chester up 2-0.
  • Senior Courtney Stump (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) singled to the right-side line in the top of the fourth to extend the lead, 3-0.
  • Kim scored again for the Golden Rams in the top of the fifth on a wild pitch to bring the game to 4-0 for WCU.
  • Spencer responded for ESU in the bottom of the fifth with a center field single to put the Warriors on the board.
  • In the bottom of the seventh, ESU was able to score on a fly out to center field and a hit by pitch run to end the game, 4-3.
 
INSIDE THE STATS | GAME ONE
  • Klemas holds three home runs on the season after this game, second best on the team.
  • Senior Jen Hanshaw (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) pitched three innings for the Golden Rams and threw two strikeouts.
 
INSIDE THE STATS | GAME TWO
  • Freshman Mary Picozzi (Collegeville, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) pitched six innings for the Golden Rams, throwing seven strikeouts and improving her record to 6-2 on the season.
  • Garber and senior Annamarie Hartman (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) combined for five hits on the game.
The Golden Rams are back on the road Tuesday afternoon for a doubleheader against Shepherd. Games are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
