Box Score 2 KUTZTOWN, Pa. - The West Chester University softball team were on the road Friday afternoon to play a doubleheader against Kutztown University. The Golden Rams won game one, 2-0 and lost the second game 5-3.
West Chester improves to 18-10 overall and 14-10 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference this season.
GAME ONE
- The game remained scoreless until the top of the seventh inning. Senior Annamarie Hartman (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) hit a triple to right center field to bring in one run for the Golden Rams.
- Sophomore Grace Aguilar (Frederica, Del./Lake Forest) singled to left field to grab an RBI and end the game, 2-0.
INSIDE THE STATS | GAME ONE
- After Friday's doubleheader, fifth year Bri Garber (Willow Street, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) moved to second in the most career runs in the WCU record books with 204.
- Senior Jen Hanshaw (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) pitched seven innings and two strikeouts.
GAME TWO
- To open up game two, sophomore Trisha Kopinetz (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove) homered to right center field to put WCU in lead the 1-0.
- In the bottom of the second, the Golden Bears scored two runs on a fielding error and double to left field from Kate Ostaszewski, putting Kutztown in the lead 3-1.
- During the bottom of the third, Kutztown was able to advance their lead to 5-1 on a single up the middle from Jenna Lipowski and a fly out to field by Sarah Harvey.
- The Golden Rams scored a run on a wild pitch to help diminish lead to only 5-2.
- West Chester tried to come back in the top of the seventh with a single from Garber to left field and end the game 5-3.
INSIDE THE STATS | GAME TWO
- The pitching for game two was a combination from freshman Mary Picozzi (Collegeville, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) and Hanshaw.
- Kopinetz, Garber and junior Emily Kim (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) each had a run during the second game of the doubleheader.
The Golden Rams host Kutztown on Saturday afternoon for a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
