KUTZTOWN, PA. - The West Chester University softball team defeated the Kutztown Golden Bears in game one of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) semifinal series. The second game in the doubleheader on Sunday afternoon was rained out and the Golden Rams will complete the remaining two games Monday morning.
The Golden Bears opened up the bottom of the first with a ground out from Jenna Lipowski to bring home a runner for KU. Senior
Jamie Klemas (South Brunswick, NJ./South Brunswick) scored on a wild pitch in the top of the second to tie the game 1-1. Lipowski singled down the left field line in the bottom of the third to take the lead 2-1. During the top of the fourth, senior
Annamarie Hartman (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) singled to right field to grab an RBI for the Golden Rams. Sophomore
Grace Aguilar (Frederica, Del./Lake Forest) singled to center field to give West Chester the lead, 3-2. In the top of the fifth, sophomore
Haleigh Karcher (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) singled to left field for an RBI and Hartman reached on a fielding error to make the score, 5-2. Klemas doubled to left field for two RBIs in the top of the sixth to extend the Golden Rams' lead, 7-2. Karcher rounded out the game for West Chester with a home run to left field, ending the game with an 8-2 win.

Jen Hanshaw (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) pitched all seven innings and five strikeouts for WCU. She improves to 13-4 on the season.
The Golden Rams are back on the field on Monday afternoon to complete the remaining games of the series against the Golden Bears. Games are scheduled for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
