WEST CHESTER, PA-- Today's matchup was the home opener of the Golden Ram's championship defense, coming off a wild three game road trip in Massachusetts which the Golden Rams came out undefeated. Shippensburg on the other hand, came into this game with a 1-0 record, defeating Coker before this matchup today.
West Chester started strong in the first period, as right off the bat Graduate Student
Caitie McNamara scored, putting the Golden Rams up one early in the matchup. The Golden Rams ended up holding the Raiders shotless in the first, until Shippensburg came out of the gate in the late game, scoring two in back to back periods led by Senior Adrienne McGarrigle, compared to West Chester's single goals in both the second and the third period. Paige Wolfe and Senior
Dara Spavlik were credited with the goals, with Wolfe in the second and Spavlik in the third. West Chester ended the game with sixteen shots on goal compared to Shippensburg's eight, and Shippensburg ended the day with ten saves compared to West Chester's three. Even though the defending National Champion Golden Rams outshot the Raiders, their winning start to the season came to an end as they fell to Shippensburg University, 4-3.
West Chester goes on the road again this week to West Haven, Connecticut as they travel to face the University of New Haven on September 15
th while continuing their title defense.
