MANSFIELD, PA —
Montana Ott (Mount Bethel, PA/Bangor) and
Dara Spavlik (Hockessin, Del./Conrad) each scored in the first half to lead second-ranked West Chester to a 2-0 victory over host Mansfield on a sunny and hot Saturday afternoon.
West Chester (5-1) registered its second straight shutout with the blanking of Mansfield (3-3). Junior goalkeeper
Claire Nielsen (Wescosville, PA/Emmaus) made three saves to pick up the win.
West Chester ended the day with a total of 19 shots (16 on goal), compared to Mansfield's six shots (three on goal). Mansfield's goalkeeper made 14 saves in the loss.
Ott opened the scoring in the ninth minute off an assist from
Cameron Smith (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen). Spavlik doubled the lead in the 29th minute off an assist from
Caitie MacNamara (Buderim, Australia).
West Chester looks ahead to the next big matchup to continue their winning streak as they head to Slippery Rock next Saturday to face Slippery Rock University at 12 p.m.
