WALTHAM, MASS. - Valerie Van Kuijck (Denbosch, The Netherlands/Pierson School) continued her magnificent start to her college career with a goal and an assist as visiting West Chester topped host Bentley, 4-1, Sunday afternoon.
Van Kuijck scored from in close off a penalty corner to put West Chester up 2-0 in the second quarter. her tally came seven minutes after
Sydney Corcoran (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) had broken a scoreless tie with a goal off a corner as well.
Olivia Quagliero (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) picked up an assist on van Kuijck's marker.
Bentley cut the Golden Rams' lead in half with a tally in the third quarter. However,
Emma Velez (Coatesville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) converted a penalty stroke in the fourth quarter, and
Sophia Morrison (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) re-directed a shot from van Kuijck into the back of the Falcons' cage for insurance late.
Claire Nielsen (Wescosville, Pa./Emmaus) made a pair of saves in the cage to register the win for West Chester. The Golden Rams held a decided in both shots, 20-4, and penalty corners, 16-3.
West Chester's three-game swing through the New England states ends Monday afternoon with a 1 p.m. start against Stonehill.
