LEBANON, Pa. – The West Chester men's golf team competed in the first round of the PSAC Championships Friday afternoon at the Iron Valley Golf Club in Lebanon, Pa. The team sits in a tie for fourth place with Shepherd University signing for a score of 304 after conclusion of Day One.
Brock Fassnacht (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) finished as the Golden Rams' Round One leader shooting 75 on the day and tying for tenth place with two other golfers (Reese Watson of CalU and Jarred Berrish of Bloomsburg) and shaving three strokes off his Round One score last year. This strong first-round effort is thanks in large part to a three-birdie, one-under stretch on the back nine, which saw him birdie the par-five 13th and 16th along with the par-four 14th. Fassnacht was also West Chester's top-scorer of the 2021 Championships, finishing seventh individually after the 54 holes.
As a team, West Chester ranks third in the field in scoring average on par threes (3.40/avg) and fourth in scoring average on par fours (4.30) while
Jacob Sokalsky (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) is one of just three players in the field to register an eagle in the opening round after eagling the par-five 16
th.
Gannon University's Shaunak Rama finished the day in first place shooting 67, but it wasn't enough to help the team to sit in a first place slot. Indiana University of Pa. topped the day's chart signing for a score of 288.
